Fact Checker Citations
Fact Checker Citations
The Fact Checker Citations feature is an update to Originality.ai’s Fact Checker that allows users to generate citations for their verified facts. It’s designed to make the process of creating citations and bibliographies easier and more efficient.
What Does the Fact Checker Citations Feature Do?
After a fact-checking scan, the Fact Checker Citations feature allows users to:
- Generate a single bibliographic citation for the source of a verified fact
- Generate a complete, downloadable PDF list of bibliographic citations for the sources of all verified facts
In other words, the update generates bibliographic citations for the sources of facts verified by Originality.ai's Fact Checker.
Who should use Originality.ai’s Fact Checker Citation feature?
Originality.ai’s Fact Checker Citation feature is for journalists, web publishers, content marketers, social media marketers, students, teachers, and anyone else who wants to automate the citation process after verifying facts with the Fact Checker.
Where do the sources come from?
The Fact Checker’s citation sources come from Perplexity Sonar, a grounded large language model (LLM) API.
In this context, “grounded” means that Sonar searches online for information related to the user’s input and uses it to generate its answers. It includes the site’s URL, title, and date in its API response, and the Fact Checker then presents it all to the user as sources.
For example, if a user asks about Originality.ai’s AI detection accuracy, Sonar will typically pull data and insights from relevant sources to provide an evidence-based response.
What citation styles does it offer?
The Citations feature allows users to generate citations in the most commonly used styles, including:
- APA
- MLA
- Chicago (Notes and Bibliography)
- IEEE
The chosen style will apply to both single bibliographic citations and full citation lists.
How to Use Originality.ai’s Fact Checker Citations Feature
Ready to see it in action? Here, we’ll show you how to use Originality.ai’s Fact Checker Citations feature to generate both single and full lists of citations.
Single Citation Generation
With the Citations feature, users can generate single bibliographic citations in just a few steps:
- Input text into Originality.ai and perform a Fact Checker scan.
- Review the facts in the results section, and scroll down to see the sources.
- Ensure the preferred citation style is selected beside the “Export Citations” button, then click “Citation” for the required source.

The tool will then generate the citation style in the requested format and give the user the option to copy and paste it to their clipboard.
PDF Bibliography or Citations List
It’s just as easy to generate entire citation lists with the Citations feature:
- Input text into Originality.ai and run a Fact Checker scan.
- Review the scan results, choose a citation style, and click the “Export Citations” button.
- The Citations feature generates the list in PDF format and automatically downloads it to the user’s computer.

Users can then open their PDF and even manually edit the citations in a PDF editor, if needed.
Does the Citation feature generate in-text citations?
No, the Citation feature only generates bibliographic citations. Currently, the citation feature doesn’t generate in-text citations, extract any citations included in the user’s original text, or automatically add any in-text or bibliographic citations into the user’s original text.
Users can choose to generate a single citation for a single source or the entire list of sources for facts verified during a Fact Checker scan.
