Articles on: How To Use Originality

Which Originality.ai AI Detector Is Most Similar to Turnitin?

Based on an Originality.ai study of 300 student essays, the 40% AI Allowance setting produced results most similar to Turnitin among the Originality.ai settings tested.
At this setting, Originality.ai and Turnitin agreed on the Human-versus-AI classification of 69.7% of documents. When Originality.ai classified a document as Original, Turnitin also placed it below the study’s comparison boundary in 96.3% of cases.

Note: Originality.ai and Turnitin are separate AI detection systems. The 40% AI Allowance setting does not predict or reproduce a Turnitin result, and the scores from the two tools should not be compared directly.

What should I use?

If you're looking for an Originality.ai setting that most closely resembles Turnitin's results in this study, select 40% AI Allowance.
AI detection results should always be considered alongside other evidence of authorship, such as drafts, notes, sources, and document history.
