How to use Originality.ai MCP in ChatGPT, Claude, and Other AI Assistants

MCP lets you scan text for likely AI-generated content from a conversation with a compatible AI assistant. You can ask for a scan in everyday language and see the result without leaving the conversation. Each successful scan also includes a link to the full result in your Originality account.

Before you start

Please ensure you have an Originality account with available credits and an AI assistant that supports the connection. ChatGPT and Claude are the recommended options for the complete experience. Scan availability and credit usage depend on your Originality account.

Your text must contain between 100 to 50,000 words.

For AI allowance scans, you can select 0%, 5%, 15%, 25%, or 40%. If you do not choose an allowance, the default is 15%.

Available in Multi-language detection as well.

Connect to Originality.ai's MCP

There are two ways to set up Originality's MCP: connect directly to the MCP server, or install the plugin/connector (COMING SOON) in your preferred AI platform. Choose the option that best fits your workflow.

Run a scan

Paste the text into your conversation and tell the assistant what you want to check. For example:

Use Originality.ai to check this text with a 15% AI allowance: [paste text]
or
Check whether this text exceeds a 5% AI allowance using Originality.ai: [paste text]
or
Scan this text at 0%, 15%, and 40% AI allowance and compare the results: [paste text]

You do not need to select an MCP tool manually. For a comparison, the assistant can create one scan and check additional allowances against that scan.

For non-English text, ask the assistant to use Originality.ai's Multi language scan. This scan does not use AI allowance thresholds, so it cannot be compared through the AI allowance rescan tool.

Troubleshooting

  • You are asked to sign in: This is expected for a new connection or when an earlier authorization expires. Complete sign-in and approve access in your browser.
  • The plugin does not run in ChatGPT: Refresh the plugin connection and your browser tab.
  • Your client says authentication is unsupported: Check whether it supports remote MCP servers, OAuth for MCP, and CIMD. A client without CIMD support cannot connect to this server.
  • Your text cannot be scanned: Check that it contains 100 to 50,000 words. If you have sent many requests in a short period, wait a few minutes and try again.
  • You see “Insufficient credits”: Check the credits in your Originality account. If you are on a team, confirm that you have access to the required credits.
  • You receive text results but no result card: Your client may support the scan tools without supporting the interactive card.
  • A connection that worked before has stopped: Disconnect and reconnect Originality to start a new authorization. If the issue continues, uninstall and reinstall the connection.
